Quality soundtrack, decent animation, neat graphics, addictive game play
Needs to be elaborated, very common, animation is a bit laggy
SpeedX 3D for Android is a fast paced, futuristic racing game with trippy, mind-bending visuals. Go fast, go far and warp your reality.
SpeedX 3D is part musical visualization, part acid trip, with great speed and interesting play. You’re zipping through a 3D rendered tunnel, and you steer by tilting and turning your gizmo, which twists and turns the entire track 360 degrees. The farther you go, the faster you go. Sounds easy, right? Think again. Geometric shapes appear randomly in your path. In the lower levels, you get a visual warning that objects are in your lane, so you know to twist and steer to a different part of the tunnel and whiz by safely. But as you go faster, the visual warnings disappear, so you’re just flying by the seat of your pants, zig-zagging through the course, trying not to go boom. If that’s not complicated enough, the track also flattens itself out and even inverts itself, so the play has some good variance to it that keep things challenging.
The soundtrack is actually quite good; it was catchy, appropriately intriguing, and added to the game’s overall mystique. The graphics are interesting, and the 3D quality really draws you in; this is one of those optical illusions that really makes you feel the movement. The speed is great and the animation is fairly smooth, but did hang from time to time. The controls worked great and made it possible to play with accuracy and skill.
SpeedX 3D is surprisingly addictive, though I think to be truly viable, it needs to be expanded. As it is, the levels are decent fun, but get a little old quick. However, the simple and responsive controls, coupled with the immersive play make this a quality, arcade style experience that kids and gamers would love.
