Offers personalized itineraries, has editorial guides to cities, makes planning a trip a snap
Has some syncing issues, pulling in reservation info isn't always reliable
In today’s age of instant information and gratification, planning a trip has literally never been easier. You can have your flight information, hotel booking, tickets for attractions and anything else you might need to take all right on your phone. Unfortunately, not all of the information is always located in the same place. That’s what Google Trips for Android hopes to accomplish.
Trips is basically an all-inclusive trip planner and travel guide that will essentially manage all of your information for you. Google will use your Google history to find information about your plane tickets and hotel reservations so they can be organized in one place. It also uses that history to then make various recommendations based on what your interests are. Finally, it offers editorialized guides on over 200 cities.
Now, I didn’t personally use the app to plan a trip that I went on, but I can tell you everything is really simple, easy to use and intuitive. The interface is just as clean as you’d expect an app designed by Google to be. Planning a mock trip was really simple. First I had to sign in using my Google account. I recommend using whichever account you used to book your travel and hotels with, just to make things run smoothly. There is a tab within the app to keep track of this. There is also a “Need to Know” section which provided me with a lot of great information about the destination I chose. And the best part of the app is easily its “Things to Do” section. This plans custom itineraries for you based on your interests.
If you never thought you needed a trip planning app, I bet Google Trips would change your mind. In fact, if you’re traveling somewhere you’ve never been, I’d say it’s almost necessary. Having the ability to have your trip organized and almost planned for you makes a huge difference in taking away the stress of traveling.
