In Tinker Island for Android, you find yourself shipwrecked on a deserted island with a handful of other survivors. Together, you’ll need to forage, build and explore in order to survive on the island long enough to put together a plan to get off the island and make your way back home.
If you judge the app by the name and screenshots, you may think this is just another survival game where you’re clearing jungle, waiting on timers and eventually find yourself bored by the monotony of the gameplay. Well, I’d say you’re half right, but would also urge you to give this game a shot. It’s largely text-based (shocking) and throws in some really interesting riddles and decisions to keep you on your feet.
The game is broken up into many different tasks and how you carry out your tasks will depend on your band of survivors. You can explore, build, forage and search, and each survivor has a specific skill set that will determine how well they do each task. This means that in order to be as efficient as possible, you’ll need to consider this before assigning tasks. Tasks do take time, but it’s not an overtly large amount of time.
The biggest lure the game has is its story. The story is well presented and offers some true dynamic gameplay options. You’ll be presented with decisions in the story you can make that will affect what happens to you and your survivors and there are riddles to solve, too.
Tinker Island is a surprising survival game that urged me to explore more of what it had to offer. I’m usually not a fan of survival games in general, but there is something special about this one.
