Lord of Orcs for Android is a city building strategy game, where you build a base and army of machine gun wielding orcs, then send them out to destroy enemy camps.
It's a lot like other games in the genre, and disappoints on a number of fronts. The building upgrades and levelling system are too linear. You lose all the orcs you send to battle, whether you win or not, and have to start recruiting all over again. The level of detail is poor, which means there's little incentive to unlock new units; as you are barely able to distinguish them on the battlefield. The game attempts to make up for this with highly detailed characters in the dialogue and tutorial, which at least gives you some sense of being in this semi-futuristic orc based universe.
The game does have some strengths. The way you place units on the battlefield in groups that you then control together is a clever way to make the game amenable to a touchscreen; without putting everything on autoplay. It's also nice that the game has both campaigns to work through, as well as the choice to attack other online players' camps.
However it seems like mostly this is about attacking bases, albeit with defensive towers. It would be more interesting and enjoyable to see more hand-to-hand combat.
