Polyforge for Android is a low-pressure semi-endless arcade game that is genuinely useful to spend a few minutes with as you wind down. It’s a difficult game, don’t get me wrong, but it’s a forgiving one. It’s like learning how to ride a bike for the first time but having one of your parents gently scoop you up every time you fall.
In the game you play as a triangle that circumnavigates its way around various polygonal shapes. As you fly around them, tapping on the screen will shoot off a bullet that “tags” a side of the polygon. You need to shoot every side of the polygon in order to move forward to the next shape. The game starts off simple by having only four sides, but you’ll soon have shapes that have 20 plus sides at awkward angles, forcing you to really pay attention to where you’re shooting while making sure your timing is impeccable.
The good news is that if you accidentally hit a side you’ve already hit then you only start over on that stage, you don’t have to start your entire run all over again. The even better news is that there is an endless mode for people who really, really love a challenge. That’s not me, though. Especially not with a game like this.
Polyforge is a low key game that offers a lot of fun in a small package. I really enjoy how the game doesn’t try to pressure you by forcing you to start over from the beginning every time you failed. If you need something to pass the time quickly, put this one on your phone.
