Racing games require precision, quick reflexes and sometimes even patience. That's why it's a little odd to think the genre has made itself so at home on mobile phones, a platform not known for tight controls. CSR Racing 2 for Android shows that a racing game doesn't need tight controls to be great.

CSR is one good looking game. I mean, if I had not just looked at how great the new Grand Turismo game looks, I'd say this is probably one of the best looking racing games to date. Okay, maybe that's a slight exaggeration, but I could easily see myself playing this game on a current gen console and not think twice about it.

What makes the CSR franchise stick out a bit more in my mind compared to other is its inclusion of licensed cars. I was able to choose a Golf GTI as my starter car. It's always cool to be able to drive your car in a game.

The mechanics fit mobile nicely because you're racing in straightaways. You need to time your launch correctly and your gear shifts to get ahead. When you advance a bit in the story, you'll be able to install nitrous on your car and manage that, too. Winning will net you some coin that you can use to purchase additional upgrades and new cars.

CSR Racing 2 doesn't do much to push the envelope when it comes to mobile racing games, but it comes with a ton of polish. My only real complaint is the frequent and lengthy loading times.
