Can we all agree that caterpillars don’t get enough love and representation in gaming? The good news is that Caterzillar for Android features a pretty cool caterpillar as its main (and only) antagonist, and he’s a gravity-defying, spider-stomping boss!
Bob’s his name and fun is his game. Playing as Bob the caterpillar, your job is to find and save the princess while taking down all of the evil insects that kidnapped her in the first place. The platforming aspect of the game is where all of the true fun begins. The best comparison I can make is that this is basically a 2D version of Mario Galaxy, and if you’ve never played that game before then you’ll just have to play this one to understand what I mean!
So levels are made up of mostly small spherical land masses. Gravity is weird in this game because each land mass has its own set of rules and you’ll need to jump from one to the next as you unlock stars in each level and make it to the end. Levels are pretty large and with so much to do in each one, it’s easy to get lose track of where you’ve been and get lost. Fortunately, there is a map to help keep you on track.
I will admit that some of the gameplay can get a bit disorienting, especially when you’re trying to avoid spikes or stomp on insects since the camera will flip flop perspective depending on where you end up. This usually lead to a few deaths that were totally accidental, which was a bit frustrating.
Caterzillar is a really fantastic platformer that honestly has no rival on mobile, as far as I’m concerned. Whether or not you like caterpillars, you’ll be hard-pressed to not like this game.
