Frustratingly unresponsive controls
Sports games typically require a lot of precise controls and movement, so they aren’t exactly at home when you play them on phones, that’s why games like Boom Boom Soccer for Android are typically as close as you get to a real sports game. This is a soccer game that essentially splits up its gameplay into four different mini games.
On offense, you’ve got one job - score. You’ll have a passing stage and a shooting stage where you’re trying to draw a line from the ball to a green circle in a limited amount of time. When you’re passing, you’re passing to another player who will take the shot, but during the shot phase, you’ll be the one taking the shot.
On defense, you’re basically doing the opposite. There is an intercept phase and a defend phase. Each time you’re trying to predict where the ball will be shot so you can defend in that area. You will swap turns with a player doing each of these things until someone messes up and loses.
The biggest problem I found with the game is that it has horrible input reception. There are countless times when I dragged my finger over to the the circle only to have it not register anything, making my entire turn totally irrelevant.
Boom Boom Soccer would actually be a fairly fun sports game if its controls weren’t so dang frustrating. Building your team, matching them up against other players and the mini games are all fun to play otherwise.
