Gorgeous graphics, great mix of clicker and city builder gameplay, highly addictive
Very slow progression
It’s not everyday that I walk into a mobile game that I know nothing about and walk away with my mind blown, but Build Away for Android did just that. This is, perhaps, the ultimate mobile game. Of course, I’m joking, but if you’ve ever wondered what clicker meets city builder looks like, well, this is it.
If you just judge the game by its screenshots, you’ll think this is just another run-of-the-mill city builder. After all, you’ll see plots of land with various buildings placed on them. But what you don’t realize until you play it is that there are a ton of different gameplay mechanics that you have to engage in before you build your city up into something interesting.
You’ll start off with your town hall. Over a period of time, it will produce money that you’ll need to click to pick up - like a clicker. But you can give the building power which will automate the collection process, and every time you level up the building’s power, it cuts its production time in half. You can also spend money to invest in the building, which will make it produce more money for you. But you need to be careful. If you spend too much money upgrading a building’s production then you run the risk of not having enough power to automate collecting the money, which means you’ve gotta put in manual labor.
Over time, you’ll be able to open bags that will have cards in them for various buildings. When you get multiples of the same card, they will stack on top and level the building passively so it will end up looking different have a cool passive ability.
Build Away offers is a really well thought out game that offers a ton of exciting gameplay, and it’s all packaged in a totally unassuming package.
