Can get grindy
I was definitely not prepared to like War Tortoise for Android anywhere near the amount that I actually did. It was one of those games that as soon as I delved in, I knew I was about to spend hours and hours pouring through what the game had to offer. And that's not something that happens every time I jumped into a new mobile game.
So the name is kind of silly, and I'll even admit that the premise is a little silly, too. You play as a squad of mice who are protecting a war tortoise. When you start out, you've got access to just you. You'll swipe around the screen as you aim at enemies and shoot at them with your machine gun. But as you begin to defend your tortoise, you'll earn money that you can then use to either upgrade your tortoise, or you can use that currency to build gunner towers or hire various troops to aid you in battle.
What's really cool about this game is that it's actually a rogue-like. Eventually, you'll die. There's just no way around it. But when you die, you'll be reborn with extra things like more money when you start and a permanent 50% boost in damage, among other things. So, while you'll have to start all over again, you'll actually get the chance to get further and further. Plus, you'll earn a speed bonus and an auto-fire mode. Eventually it almost turns into a clicker.
I absolutely adore this game because it came out of nowhere and it’s actually good. There is a lot of game here and it hides it behind progression in a way that makes you want to explore the game and get further and further.
