Review Waze Social GPS Maps & Traffic
Social media GPS with advanced features safety concerns
Author: Jay Feldman

Powerful functionality, intuitive interface, modern design
Functions slowly, is lagging, kills your battery
Waze Social GPS Maps & Traffic for Android takes your GPS navigation to the next level by adding social networking and location sharing with friends. It’s playful and fun, though perhaps invites too much distraction while behind the wheel.
Waze Social GPS Maps & Traffic is actually really cool. Basically, it takes the boredom out of driving and puts a little pep in your navigation. The app uses your phone’s location services to zero in on your location and present a cartoonish and user friendly interactive map on your gizmo. Just set your destination, hit navigate, and you’ll get playful GPS guidance to wherever you’re going. Waze places all of your friends onto the map too, so you can easily see where they are, where they’re going and even how fast they’re driving. Waze also gives users the ability to report traffic jams, police speed traps, ticket cameras and even report accidents – like the one you’re bound to get into while staring at all the visual stimuli this app provides.
The app functions fairly well, but the maps are very slow to render and bogged down; same as most every other GPS app. The app does drain your battery, so if you decide to use this, you definitely want your phone plugged in and charging while driving. I love the integration of gas prices and station locations, and also the social aspect of it all. However, it does raise some serious privacy and safety issues. This app may cause many accidents, or at the very least, is an accident waiting to happen.
Waze Social GPS Maps & Traffic is quite good and makes GPS navigation fun. It’s glitchy and a battery hog, but it’s also fun and cool. Just be careful when using it while driving; which is pretty much when you’ll use it most. Oh, and one final tip - never let your kids download this app; it's just too dangerous and enticing to use while driving.
