Innovative gameplay, great aesthetic, features color blind mode
Only has 38 levels
Typically, I tend to roll my eyes a bit whenever I see a new match-three game hit the scene. The tried and true template has been done to death, and while everyone is very competent at creating them, the market feels incredibly saturated with them. Swapperoo for Android is a match-three game that has plenty of innovative gameplay features that pretty ensures you’ll think about the genre’s mechanics in a new light.
So, pretty much all of the genre’s ways to win remain the same. You’re trying to match at least three shapes, and your goal is to match a certain amount of them in order to win. You’re not able to move tiles around in the typical sense, however. Instead, you can swap certain pieces in certain directions that are indicated by the piece, or you can simply cause some to burst. Either way, the game forces you to adapt to scenarios.
The game’s aesthetic is also really cool. It’s minimalist but done so in good style. There are various types of grids that you can play through that increase difficulty by further limiting where you can move. Unfortunately, the game only features 38 levels at this moment, so while you’ll be entertained, you might not be entertained for a super long period of time.
Swapperoo is in a weird position, in my opinion, because I’m still not in a position where I’m honestly ready to play through a match-three game for fun. Still, I have to give credit where credit is due because the developers behind the game really put some thought and effort into this one.
