Review Spellbinders
A mythological take on Plants vs. Zombies
Author: Brandon Girod

Great graphics, fun gameplay, short and sweet
Not as in-depth as it could be
Spellbinders for Android is a tower defense game that pits you against an opposing enemy in synchronous battle. It’s a lot like Plants vs. Zombies, but instead of featuring scary looking plants and funny zombies, it features Greek gods and ancient soldiers.
Plants vs. Zombies was developed by Pop Cap, which is a group of developers renowned for crafting extremely good arcade-like games. You pay for them, but they ooze quality. This game isn’t actually too far flung from that, though the developers didn’t include as much meat to the gameplay as there are less unit types than there are in PvZ. There are also less lanes, too.
Here we have three lanes and there are cannons in the middle of each lane. Part of the battle is trying to get your troops across the lane to attack the enemy’s base and deal damage to their hero, but the bulk of the game is usually fighting in mid over the canons. If you control the canons, they do 1 damage every few seconds for as long as you have control of them. If you get all three then they have an overcharge and do significantly more damage.
Playing through Spellbinders will allow you to unlock new types of units to command and new powerful spells to cast. The longevity is there but fortunately, it doesn’t seem like the game overstays its welcome either. This is a shorter tower defense game, but it’s got solid gameplay, good graphics, and it’s a fun time.
