The best math game out there
Author: Brandon Girod
Date: 01 May 2017, tested on HTC One M8
Excellent gameplay, requires quick wit, good graphics
Could use a change of environment
If Math Hopper for Android taught me anything in the time I spent with the game, it’s that if my life depended on me having to quickly solve basic addition and subtraction then I might as well kill myself right then and there. I’m horrible at it. But if you tout yourself as some sort of quickdraw of a mathematician, then you might find this game is right up your alley.
As you might expect, this game has you hopping around while you try to solve math equations. The concept is simple, but they throw a stick in your spokes by having some faceless object chase you around, forcing you to try and solve the equations as quickly as possible so you can stay far ahead of your nameless rival.
So in the game you have your main platforms that are essentially the answers to the equations, and then you have smaller platforms that you can use to create the equation to reach the answer you need. So, let’s say your number is 4 right now and you need to get to 0. There may be two platforms that say -2, in which case you’d need to land on both of them to land on the platform that says 0. Or, one of the platforms may say 3 and the other -4, which means you’ll need to jump to the -4 platform and skip the one that says 3.
Herein lies the true difficulty of the game - knowing where you need to go before you get caught by whatever is approaching you. The time pressure can very easily trip you up into making a mistake you might not make otherwise.
Math Hopper is easily one of the most unique math arcade games I’ve played for pretty much the entire time I’ve been playing games on my phone. I love the aesthetic, the idea behind it, and the gameplay.
