A fun but slow multiplayer racer

Unique aesthetic, seemingly new concept
Controls don't feel great, gameplay is thin
Rope Racer for Android is really exactly what the name of the game says it is. It’s an online multiplayer game where you race other players in these head-to-head racers, or at least their ghosts.
This is easily one of the most straightforward games that I think I’ve played in some time. You play as one of 30 characters as you race against others online. You’ll earn new characters as you gain money from winning races. While you’ll get some money even if you lose, the game can be really grindy. So you’ll really want to play to win if you want to see more characters.
Playing the game is just as straightforward. Your character will automatically move forward, so the only thing you need to do is tap and hold the screen to essentially throw a grappling hook into the ceiling and swing. To be honest, you never want to touch the ground. So while there are hazards on the ground, they’re only there for punishing you for falling down.
I was fortunate to win every race that I played in because most people only seemed to think you should jump when you see some kind of obstacle, but levels are created to reward you for swinging, so definitely do that.
I had fun with Rope Racer, but it’s only really as challenging as the people you play against and I never felt like I was ever being challenged. There are a bunch of levels to try and maintain a player’s interest, but I just wasn’t biting.
