A surprisingly good runner

Good graphics, dynamic level design, varied environments
No new gameplay mechanics
So, apparently Hugo is a legitimate Danish franchise, which is a surprise to me because when I was downloading this game, I couldn’t figure out who would create a children’s franchise based on a bunch of weird looking trolls. Well, Hugo Troll Race 2 for Android changed my mind. I’m still not convinced on the style, but I can say this is a legit endless runner.
I won’t pretend like I know any lore behind this game. Instead, I’ll tell you that this is a game where you’ll play as either Hugo or Hugolina to fight against Scylla and her minions while gathering as much gold as possible.
This game is very much like its predecessor, but it does have some pretty large improvements over it. First off, you can play as Hugolina and even buy different outfits for her, levels are more dynamic than they were previously, and you can get into head-to-head battles against AI or your friends.
Gameplay wise, I was just really impressed with the detail and thought that went into the game’s level design. Everything is procedurally generated, but you’re not stuck starting off in the same environment every time you start a new game. I also loved the fact that the environment seemed to change at a pretty steady pace, just to keep things interesting.
Hugo Troll Race 2 is a great example of a runner done right. They’ve added a lot of new features to this game that weren’t there in the original, and the amount of work that’s gone into the environment is unparalleled.
