The best snowboarding game on mobile
Stylistic graphics, fun controls, amazing gameplay, no ads
Lengthy tutorial, too much dialogue, controls aren't always responsive

After the terrible debacle that was Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 on consoles, I was afraid that extreme sports games were pretty much dead in the water until a new IP came out to take us into the next revolution. The thing is, Skate was sort of that game and it already happened and died. That said, having played Snowboarding: The Fourth Phase, I can happily say that the genre is alive and well, just not in the same capacity as before.
This is a snowboarding game, so you’re obviously going to be a bit more limited to what you can do versus a semi-open-world skating or BMX game. That said, this game has incredible style and does a lot with what you’re given. Like other games like it, this is heavily based on getting high scores, and you’ll do that by completing missions, doing tricks, and gaining new items to use.
The whole idea behind the story is that you were on track to become the best snowboarder in the world until a terrible accident put you in a bad state of mind (and body). But years later you hit the snow again and someone spots you. It’s another legendary snowboarder and now the two of you are shooting a movie together.
Each level plays out in one swoop, so you’ll have a run to rack up as many points as possible by grabbing geo tags, comboing tricks, and a number of other things. I felt like the controls were mostly really good. I like the swiping, tapping, and holding gestures, but sometimes I felt like they weren’t registering property.
A good snowboarding game must be difficult to pull off when you’ve got a device that lacks buttons, but the guys and girls behind Snowboarding: The Fourth Phase really pulled it out.
