Fun and interesting gameplay, tight controls, great art
Upgrades are expensive
Today’s reviews have all been about really unique games and Splash Cars for Android is another one you can add to the books. This is a game that features really drifty cars that are trying to paint over really grey and dull towns and eventually cities. The controls are tight and the gameplay is fun.
So you jump right into this game with a really quick tutorial level but I can’t really say that the game is great at explaining myself. During the tutorial, I had no idea what I was really supposed to be doing. I just knew that paint was being spread on the level underneath my car, so I decided to paint as much as I could. Little did I know that there is a damage threshold you need to pay attention to and you have to be wary of.
The idea is pretty simple, though. You’re trying to paint the town while dodging obstacles and police, and you’re also trying to make sure you hit the gas tanks at prime times so you can stay on the road for as long as possible, enabling you to cover up as much of the app as possible.
There are three tiers of coverage you need to hit. This is usually something like 30, 40, and 60 percent, but it can change depending on the level you’re playing. Hitting these tiers will net you various rewards like allowing you to earn all the coins you collected on your run, letting you gain more loot, unlocking the ability to purchase new cars, and unlocking new levels.
I actually had a blast playing Splash Cars. It’s a game that lets you play at your own pace, and while you need to be strategic in your gameplay at later levels, you can still have a good time playing without thinking too much about it.
