Unique and personable graphics, interesting gameplay
Rewards aren't great
Lift Car for Android introduced me to a concept that I really need in my life. Being able to just jump up and drive above all traffic seems like a godsend. Unfortunately, the game isn’t quite as fun as you might expect it to be, and certainly not as fun as it would probably be in real life.
The objective of said game involves simply clearing traffic. There are their tiers of height: normal height, above car height, and above large trunks. Clearing normal cars is the easy part. Where things get difficult is when you’re at the second tier height and need to quickly get to the first. It’s tricky because that means you have to cycle through the third to get back to the first. You can’t simply move your car down.
Personally, I found this to be a really frustrating control scheme. There’s no reason to make the player cycle through heights because it doesn’t add any extra depth to the gameplay. Plus, the controls can be pretty finicky at times.
I have to give some massive credit to the game’s overall aesthetic, however. This is another one of those mobile games that really took the extra effort to make the game at least appear to be something totally different than other games on the market. Simply making realistic and detailed 3D models isn’t enough. These guys went the whole nine yards and added some actual design elements to their game.
Lift Car looks great but doesn’t actually play great. Rewards do very little to make the player want to continue playing the game. Let’s not forget to mention that actually grinding out the currency to win the rewards is mind numbing.
