Review Ultimate Briefcase

7.9Good
Superb design, elegant animations, tight controls
Buries you in ads, rewards feel too grindy
A bombproof briefcase doesn’t sound like it would be very useful to everyday Joe Schmoe, but for Tucker, well, let’s just say his day took a wrong turn somewhere down the road. Hundreds of machines have been unleashed on his city and are dropping bomb after bomb, and Tucker is just trying to survive. Welcome to Ultimate Briefcase for Android.
Let’s start off with the things that I absolutely love about this game. First up would be the aesthetic. Everything about this game looks absolutely fantastic. It’s like looking back at SNES graphics through rose-tinted glasses. Everything is clean and just really great looking - animations too. The controls are also really on point. You tap left or right to go in the direction you want. The real selling point is that sometimes controls like this can seem floaty, like sometimes you’ll overshoot where you want to go because the game doesn’t immediately register the stop, but not in this case.
I’m also a fan of the way the gameplay evolves. You collect money as you’re dodging the dropping bombs and this money can be used in a number of different ways. For instance, you could use it to unlock new power-ups that drop permanently, or you could use them to unlock new characters. What’s cool is actually modifying the drops to turn the game in your favor rather than just upgrading a character’s stats. It’s unique.
Unfortunately, I just didn’t really get into the gameplay. While I like the idea of building up my game, it takes a really long time to do that because money drops at an inconsistent rate. I also found that games would just take too long to make any real progress. I don’t want to run around dodging dropping bombs for five minutes straight. It’s just exhausting, which is the opposite of what I want from a mobile game.
Ultimate Briefcase does a lot of cool things with its gameplay that are really cool. But I just couldn’t get past the monotone gameplay and the grindy nature of it all. Plus the game is totally riddled with ads.
