Fun retro graphics, exciting gameplay
Upgrades are expensive
Clickers don’t really take much to be good. Come up with a somewhat interesting premise, make numbers biggers, and have a decent aesthetic. Tap! Tap! Faraway Kingdom for Android checks all of those boxes and then some. It’s a retro styled clicker that has you building up a party of adventurers to kill a dragon.
To briefly explain the mechanics of a clicker: you click on things. As you click on things you’ll earn gold that will let you upgrade so that you can click more stuff faster and get bigger numbers. This game adds some extra layers on top of that. For instance, your character levels up, you can recruit other heroes to join you on your adventure, and you can find and equip items that will make you even stronger.
There are multiple floors and every second floor or so will have a boss on it. This is basically a check to make sure you’re ready to move on. You’ll need to be able to beat the boss of each level before the timer hits zero. In the entire time played the game, I never had an issue with this.
My only real complaint is that it takes a really long time to level up your other characters to do damage automatically. The main idea in most clickers is to have the game basically farm for you while you’re away, but that doesn’t happen in this game. Instead, you’ll be tapping a lot. I’m all about making some upgrade more expensive so that it extends the game a bit, but this is pushing it.
I had a blast with Tap! Tap! Faraway Kingdom, though. I adored the art, I was blown away by the animations, and the added game mechanics added a lot to the game.
