Review Army War Truck 3D Racer
Struggle to race army trucks around a track
Author: Brandon Girod

Good graphics, lots of tracks
Bad controls, odd premise, no real replayability
Did you know that army truck drivers used to race around on really well built tracks in the middle of war time? Me either. And I still doubt it happened, which is why Army War Truck 3D Racer for Android just seems like the weirdest game ever. The title alone just seems like an attempt to put in as many SEO keywords as possible, despite Google’s guidelines telling developers to do the exact opposite. But let’s get into the real meat of the game.
The title screen is the first place you’re dropped into, and for some reason, the game has two of them. You’ll select the only track you have available to you (at the time) and start racing. Your truck will move forwards automatically, which leaves the player with the task of turning the vehicle and braking when needed. Unfortunately, the controls are horrid. Turning is difficult and there is no tactile feedback. There are plenty of times where I felt like I just couldn’t turn fast enough with the curve. And the brake pedal is smack dab in the middle of the screen, which means that if you have a big phone you’re going to be stretching your hand out while trying to perform a pretty crucial action. The whole setup just seems insane and poorly thought out.
The worst part is that if you hit a wall at any angle, the truck will smash into perpendicularly, which means you’ll have to slowly back out, and then wait for the acceleration to kick in before you start moving again. Pair that up to what I said earlier about not always being able to turn sharp enough and you’ve got a bit of a problem.
There are a few new trucks you can unlock as you play the game, but even after unlocking one of the mid-tier trucks, I didn’t felt like it was any faster or handled any better than what I was driving originally, and it really didn’t look cool. It was just a jeep. Not exactly incentivizing.
Army War Truck 3D Driver is a poor driving game and a poor racing game. It’s not that it’s filled with ads, it just has poor controls, uninspiring rewards, and the driving mechanics aren’t fun.
