Star Wars is easily the biggest movie franchise out right now, and Star Wars - Galaxy of Heroes for Android is probably one of the best ways to experience the entire Star Wars universe straight from your phone. In it, you’ll both collect and battle your way through the game on either the light side or the dark side with all of your favorite Star Wars characters.
Most of the major hook of this game revolves around being set in the Star Wars universe. It’s just like the other hero RPGs where you gather a party together so you can fight, level them up, and get them shiny new gear. Whoever did the art for this game really took it up a notch, though. It feels like almost every level you play in the campaign is brand new, so you really aren’t going to see the same levels for a long time, long enough that you really won’t notice.
I’m even a fan of the combat system because it plays out more like a JRPG than your typical auto-attacking mobile RPG. Though you can choose an auto-battle option, the main meat of the combat system goes between choosing which enemy you need to target first and juggling your party’s list of special attacks. You’ll need to know when you launch a heal, and be able to identify which enemy needs to be taken out first.
Heroes in the game level up by participating in battle and you can find new gear to equip on your characters too. This aspect of the game felt a bit more typical than I would have liked. Fortunately, there is no character fusion system to mindlessly spend hours in, but the slow rate of the character progression can leave the game feeling stagnant at times.
Star Wars - Galaxy of Heroes is one of the best mobile RPGs that I’ve played in a long time. Yes, part of that is because I’m a huge Star Wars fan, but the other part is simply because it’s one of the best games of its genre that I’ve played.
