Review SNIPER X WITH JASON STATHAM

7.9Good
Massively generic gameplay, features new firing modes
Poor voice acting, needless upgrade system
Think of the last sniper-like game you’ve played on a mobile phone. You probably remember a lot of mandatory upgrading, linear gameplay levels that eventually open up, and the same scenarios involving take out x, y and z targets. Well, Sniper X with Jason Statham for Android is more of that with just a few tacked on features.
Don’t get me wrong, these types of games are addictive because they’re quick, they look great, and they offer a lot of instant gratification. But this game is exactly like every sniping game that’s come before it with a few exceptions. First off, you get a few different firing modes like suppression and focus modes that help make some missions easier. And you get a seemingly fact Jason Statham voice actor telling you what to do the whole time.
One of the puzzling aspects of the game included the forced upgrade system. Some levels would be red, indicating that you needed to upgrade your gun because its level was too low. The problem is that you can upgrade your gun in a myriad of ways and this game doesn’t tell you what you need to do. Should you upgrade the scope so you can snipe enemies from a longer distance? Upgrade your clip so you can take out multiple enemies before reloading? You never know because that level is the only stipulation preventing you from progressing. It just begs the question: Why do I need to upgrade if there is no specific reason to?
The good news is that the controls are really tight and Sniper X with Jason Statham can hang with the best of them. The bad news is that it’s still just so generic, and I question whether it’s really Jason Statham’s voice because the voice over quality is just bad.
