Review Qubes

Brandon Girod
Original gameplay, fun visuals, plenty of rewards
The ad campaign is a bit shady
Here is another game from the developers at Ketchapp bringing us another fun endless game. Qubes for Android is a bit different than some of the other games brought to us by Ketchapp, however. The good news is that it’s just as good as the rest of its peers.
Jumping straight in, there is an orange ball that is essentially bouncing down an infinitely long path of cubes. What’s interesting is that you can control which direction the ball falls in. If the ball is already falling to the right then you can tap on the screen to make it change its path to the left. The key is that it doesn’t change its path unless until it’s in mid-air, so what makes the game difficult is timing your jumps.
Along the way, you’ll come across holes in the path that you’ll need to either avoid or hit a cube that will launch your ball into the air and over the hole. The game doesn’t waste anytime getting difficult, however. It throws curves at you right from the beginning, and the idea is simple: get as far as you can get. The You can easily track your average distance because the game will throw up a banner at that spot.
The game features plenty of rewards to unlock as well, but they’re all different skins for the ball, and none of them were very enticing. You’ll collect coins along the way, but you can only unlock these skins when the game allows you to, and they’re done randomly. Fortunately, coins are plenty, and the game will give you plenty of opportunities to unlock the rewards.
Qubes is great for what it is, but it’s not my favorite game in the Ketchapp catalogue. There are lengthy fullscreen ads that pop up right when the player would normally be tapping the screen, and this just seems shady. Other than that, the game is fun, but not something I could see myself keeping it on my phone.
